Golf One and Done Pools

One golfer each event. A whole season of decisions.

Give your group a new pick each tournament. In classic One and Done, members choose one golfer, use that golfer only once across the pool, and add up official tournament earnings. Everyone stays in the standings after a poor week.

Pick a different golfer at each event and add their official earnings across the series. Each golfer is used once. A missed cut hurts the score but does not eliminate the entry.

A season, the majors, or a shorter series.

Plan your One and Done pool

Set the schedule, scoring, and backup rules.

Keep the classic one-golfer, once-only format. The main setup decisions are which events count and what happens when a pick cannot play.

A full season or just the majors.

Choose a weekly schedule, the four majors, or a shorter series. Each golfer can be used once across that whole schedule. Separate segment standings do not have to reset the used-golfer list.

Count official tournament earnings.

Add each pick’s eligible official earnings to the entry’s total. Larger purses naturally make some events worth more. Use announced multipliers only if you want to change that weighting.

Decide when a backup can step in.

A preselected alternate can cover a golfer who never starts. If you also allow a withdrawal during the first round to trigger it, say so. State whether the original golfer remains available later.

Your pool’s rules

Keep the once-only rule clear.

Set the tournament list, scoring source, and exceptions before the first selection locks.

Schedule and golfer use

Included events
Use a season, the majors, or selected tournaments. List which event counts when more than one is played in a week.
Picks per event
Classic play uses one golfer. Multiple picks are an optional variation and need their own scoring and reuse rules.
Reuse limit
Use each golfer once for the whole pool, or define a different limit or reset for named segments.
A used golfer
State when a selection consumes a use and what happens after a no-show, withdrawal, or cancelled event.
Entries per person
Allow one or more separate entries, each with its own selection history.

Earnings and standings

Official tournament earnings
Credit eligible official earnings from the selected event. Exclude tour bonuses unless your rules explicitly add them.
Missed cuts
Use the official eligible earnings, commonly zero. The entry keeps playing at the next event.
Other scoring
Use strokes or a declared points system if that is your variant. Specify missed-cut and unfinished-round treatment for lower-is-better scoring.
Event multipliers
Count events equally or announce selected multipliers, such as extra weight for majors.
Dropped events and segments
Allow dropped results or separate segment standings if configured. Explain whether a dropped result still consumes the golfer’s use.
Tied totals
Use declared tiebreakers or tied standings. Establish how a remaining tie affects final places and prize splits.

Deadlines and replacements

Entry and pick deadlines
Choose when joining closes and when each event’s picks lock, before tournament play begins.
Missed selections
Set the score or penalty for an incomplete lineup or a missed event. Include any automatic-pick rule in the pool rules.
Alternates
Allow a preselected backup if your pool uses one. Define the trigger, such as a golfer withdrawing before starting, and the alternate’s eligibility.
Withdrawals after play starts
Use the announced scoring or replacement rule. Permission to replace a pre-start withdrawal does not automatically allow a substitution during the tournament.
Shortened or cancelled events
Decide whether an official shortened result counts and what happens when there is no official result.

Optional second chances

Alternate use
Define whether an activated alternate consumes its own use and whether the original golfer remains available.
Mulligans
Allow a limited recovery option if your group uses one. State what is replaced, when it can be claimed, and its effect on score and golfer history.

Commissioner controls

A setup question, a scoring issue, a house rule you want to try: you’ll hear from the people building Picksheet.

Before your group makes its first pick.

The exceptions should be as clear as the weekly selection.

Am I out if my golfer misses the cut?

No. In ordinary earnings-based One and Done, the pick receives its eligible official earnings and the entry continues. Golf survivor uses an elimination rule instead. Explore Golf Survivor.

Can two members pick the same golfer?

Yes. The once-only limit applies to each entry’s own history. It does not reserve a golfer for one person in the pool.

Can we replace a golfer who withdraws?

Use your pool’s alternate rule. A preselected backup might cover a no-show or early withdrawal, but the exact trigger and deadline need to be specified. It is not an unrestricted swap after a bad round.

Does One and Done have to last a full season?

No. A majors-only pool or a selected run of tournaments uses the same basic idea. Set the reuse window across the schedule you choose.
