College Bowl Confidence Pools

Make every bowl pick carry a little more weight.

Run a bowl confidence pool where members pick winners and put more points on the games they trust most. Correct picks earn their assigned values. Use one set of values across the bowl schedule, with later picks opening as playoff matchups become known.

Members assign points to their own picks. Use one bank across the schedule, with values saved for later playoff games, or reset values for each group.

Choose your confidence format

One bank, with a plan for later games.

The game list sets the size of the points bank. The pick deadlines decide whether members assign it all at once or save values for later.

Rank the full sheet upfront.

Use a schedule of known matchups. With 20 games, for example, each entry uses every value from 1 to 20 once. Lock all picks and values before the first game.

Keep one bank through the playoff.

Include later CFP rounds and collect picks in stages. If the pool includes 30 games, use values 1 to 30 across the whole pool. Values used on earlier games stay spent, even on losing picks.

Reset values for each group.

For a different format, assign a fresh range within each group of games and add the results. Spell out the reset: it changes how members use their highest values.

Your pool’s rules

Set the points, schedule, and exceptions.

Give members a clear answer about which values they can use now and what they need to keep for later.

Games and schedule

Included games
Use the bowl schedule, a selected set of games, or bowls plus the College Football Playoff. Count a CFP game played in a bowl once.
Later playoff rounds
Include only matchups known at entry time, or open later picks when the advancing teams are known.
Starting and ending games
Choose the first eligible game and where the pool ends. A late-start pool can use the games still to come.
Entries per person
Allow one entry each, or set a limit for your group.

Confidence values

Points range
Match the range to the included game count, or use a custom set of values with stated reuse limits.
One bank or group resets
Use each value once across the whole pool, or issue a fresh range for each defined group.
Winning and losing picks
Correct picks earn their assigned value. Losing picks earn zero and still consume that value in a once-only bank.
Assigning later values
With staged picks, use only values still available. Leave enough unused values for the remaining games.
Straight-up or spread
Use actual winners or grade against fixed pool lines. Define how a push affects both points and the assigned value.

Deadlines and changes

Pick deadlines
Lock the sheet before the first included game, use a deadline for each group, or lock individual picks at kickoff.
Unknown matchups
Give later playoff matchups their own pick window. Members cannot pick between teams that have not yet qualified.
Missed picks
Use no points, a stated penalty, or an automatic-pick rule. Keep the treatment consistent across entries.
Postponed or cancelled games
Set whether a delayed game still counts and what happens if it is never played. A changed opponent may need a new pick.
Edits after submission
Allow changes until the relevant deadline. Once a pick locks, any commissioner correction should be visible.

Scoring exceptions and finish

Cancelled-game values
Choose whether a voided game’s value stays unused for scoring, returns to the bank, or triggers a revised range. Make any adjustment the same for everyone.
A changed game list
Before picks lock, revise the range with the schedule. After play starts, use the announced adjustment rule without silently renumbering locked picks.
Tiebreakers
Use a predicted combined score for a designated final game, with a rule for equally close guesses and any tie that remains.
Overall results
Add earned confidence points across all included games. Separate group results can sit alongside the overall standings.

Commissioner controls

Seeing other picks
Reveal picks after the applicable deadline. With staged submissions, keep future groups hidden until they lock.
Commissioner picks
Enter and fix picks for a member, or turn that off
Rules text
A rules page generated from your settings, plus a note in your own words
Audit markers
Always on. Commissioner picks are flagged "C" and revivals "R"
Entry management
Keep track of who has joined, how many entries they have, and who still owes their dues.

Before members rank their picks.

A few decisions that affect the whole sheet.

How many confidence points do we use?

A full-range pool uses 1 through the number of included games. There is no fixed bowl-game count to copy every year; your chosen schedule determines the range.

Can we include playoff matchups that are not known yet?

Yes. Set aside pick windows for those games and let members assign their remaining values when matchups are known. The global bank does not reset unless your rules say it does.

Do we get a value back if the pick loses?

No, in a once-only bank. A loss earns zero points but uses the assigned value. A cancelled game is a separate case covered by your voided-game rule.

What if we just want later games worth more?

Use weighted pick’em if everyone should receive the same points for a given game. Confidence lets each member choose the values. Explore Bowl Pick’em.
